MSS16 Gets a Makeover!


Hey Sweet 16ers!
 
Since mysupersweet16.com's launch almost a year ago we've seen quite a few awesome parties and had a chance to get to know some great people....but we realized there might be more to this idea of a party community.  We've now overhauled the site and made it easier than ever to give and get advice on how to throw a boomin' bash.  This time around the focus is more on planning, preparation, and sharing the things you learned from throwing your own party with the rest of the community. 
 
In addition to our super helpful forums where you can ask questions about just about anything, you'll notice that now you're labeled as either an 'expert', meaning you've already had your party, or a 'partier' which means your party is still to come.  You partiers can now recruit experts you admire to help you plan your own party, and experts can volunteer to assist those precocious partiers in return! 
 
Also, we've got a whole new badge system set up which rewards you for your activity on the site.  Comment on someone's party photo?  An activity point for you!  Respond to someone's forum post?  Another point!  The more active you are on a daily basis, the cooler and more unique your badge becomes, which tells the other users that you're a power player in this community.  
 
There are waaaay too many new updates to list here, so head on over to mysupersweet16.com and check out what's going on.  If you have questions feel free to send us an e-mail or better yet, check out the forums.  We're going to be on there regularly answering questions related to the new site changes, so ask away!

Forums Are Back and Better than Ever!


Hey there Partiers!

Last year we launched the Party Forums to help y'all connect with eachother to make your parties the best they can be. 

We've seen the forums grow in popularity since that launch, and because they're now being used more than ever we decided to make some changes to make them easier to use. 

The quick-view forums box lives at the bottom of the homepage.  From here you can view some of the most popular and most recent posts.  Once you head over to the full service forums page (by clicking the "forums" button at the top or bottom of the homepage) you'll see a whole slew of new categories to have fun with!  

Use these specially designed categories to talk about anything from boy troubles, to cakes, to music, to fashion and more! 

We've got hundreds of users on the forums every day so you're sure to get some helpful insight. 

You know we do this all for you, so if you have any comments or suggestions as to how we can further improve the experience, please let us know!

Why 16?


Yes, I’m a drama queen. 

I mean I love theatre, movies, etc. So this is my theory about why the age of 16 is so important.  All the great things happen on the 16th! 

Hundreds of years ago on April 16th, in 1787, the first American playwright was produced – that’d be like, uh, Steven Spielberg!  On May 16h, over a hundred years ago, the first fictional film was shot!  Ice-T was born on February 16th.  And on August 16th, James Cameron (and without Cameron we would not have Leo in Titanic) and Madonna were born.  See what I mean. 

Now my birthday is on the 16, too, and I was born at 4:16 pm (that’s 16:16 in the army – I’m an army brat)!  So if all these great things are happening on the 16th it’s no wonder that Sweet 16 is such an important birthday!  Do you know what happens on August 16th? I’ll tell you…the US Air guitar Finals!  Everything totally super happens on the 16th, see?  I know that everyday at 4:16 pm I’m logged into My Sweet Sixteen.  It’s not even a ritual….it’s become an obsession – complete drama, right?

Hi everyone!

I was killing some time this morning by browsing around the Internet looking for some killer Sweet 16 party themes. A big part of the show, of course, is having an awesome theme, preferably a theme that trumps all the others girls in town. But a Google search for Sweet 16 themes got me this:

"For your Sweet 16 party here is a party idea that is fun and can be organized to fit the Sweet 16 party. FREE PARTY GAME - KITE AND BROOD HEN: The players form up in a line. They take each other by the waist. The first in the line is 'a brood-hen,' all the rest are 'chickens'. One of the players is 'a kite'. He/she tries to catch the last 'chicken' in the line. The 'brood-hen' tries to prevent him/her from doing it. The 'brood-hen' bars the kite's way by the stretched arms. All 'the chickens' try to help the 'brood-hen', by moving the end of the line away from 'the kite'. When 'the kite' catches 'the chicken' the players will choose the new 'kite' and 'brood-hen'. If 'the kite' doesn't succeed in catching 'the chicken' for a long time, he/she is replaced by the other player."

Geez. If these people were any more out of touch, they'd recommend dancing the Charleston at your party. Girls today are into cars and boys and club dancing (or at least the girls on the show sure are) and they're talking about a game which involves someone being a "brood-hen"? Wow.

Why Videos Are So Essential to a Good Profile


Hey Guys and Gals!

We've been browsing your profiles and have to say they're really shaping up!  We get so stoked when we see a totally pimped profile celebrating an amazing party.  

There is one area we've seen that needs some improvements though....your videos.  We know these are sometimes harder to get a hold of than pictures, but do everything you can because posting lots of cool videos can have very positive results....

Keep in mind that your Videos are what we feature if your party gets props on TV, so if you don't have any videos it's hard for you to get credit.  

Also, when we're picking a new Party of the Week, we often go by who has videos on their profile, so do what you can to get those up.  

The videos don't necessarily need to be from your party either....you can upload videos of you talking about your party, interviewing your friends or family about their experiences at your party, showing us your favorite gift....just about anything!  

So grab those camcorders and get to work!

Show Off Your Entourage!

The Awesome New Entourage Feature Explained

Dear Sweet 16ers,

Because we’re always trying to improve the mysupersweet16.com experience, we recently asked ourselves, “how can we make the site even better than it is now?” 

The result of that brainstorm session is the newest addition to the site, the ability to create your very own “Entourage”.

Unlike the “Party Posse”, which lists the friends you have met through the website, the new “Entourage” feature is there for you to show off your real-life friends and their parties.  We’re sure your friends are having great parties they’re dying to share as well, so invite them to join and give them the chance!  

And while you’re at it, invite everyone from your school to join the website and watch your entourage grow and grow!  The more friends you have, the bigger and better your entourage will be, which is important because we’ll be rewarding those users who have the largest entourage.

So get started and prove to everyone how popular you really are!

Our popular Party Map feature is back and better than ever!

Use this newly improved function to locate other parties near you, or even all the way across the country!

Hover over the state you want to check outand click to zoom in. You can continue to zoom in to get more specific if you like or you can just start checking out the parties!

Each circle represents a party that is happening or has happened.

Click on the circles to see the profiles and, while you're on their pages, why not leave them a comment!

If you're having trouble viewing the map, make sure you're using the most up-to-date version of Internet Explorer (version 7).

The Party Map is a great way to connect to guys and gals across the country, so use it often!

Hey Sweet 16ers!

We wanted to drop you a quick note to share some of our site updates as well as remind and encourage you to take advantage of mysupersweet16.com to the fullest, utilizing this singular opportunity to memorialize your party for the entire world to see and envy! Internet infamy is your true reward for being the best and it's at your fingertips. And showing off is only one aspect - if you've got the party knowledge, share it with others and become THE Sweet 16 expert!

In order to make your mysupersweet16.com experience better than the last, we've implemented the following new functions:

- We added "Request to be a Guest" link on everyone's "guest" section of their profiles.  People who visit your page can click that and be added to your guest list if you want them to be! 

- The new Super Sweet Daily Bulletin is up now and can be found on the top of the home page.  Check there often for updates about the site (like this one!).

- When someone posts something to your page, you'll be notified by e-mail so you can check it out.

- Custom backgrounds are available now in the "edit profile" section.  You can now upload any photo or wall paper that you want for your background!

- You'll notice new profile badges on pages now.  If you fill out your profile completely and update often (including your  blog and pictures/videos) you'll get a special badge that says how awesome you are.  If not, you'll have one that says your profile is under construction. 

- We'll soon be featuring Party of the Week runners up to give props to other parties we think you should check out.

- We're setting up a "Hall of Fame" which will feature all previous Party of the Week winners.  Yay! 

We have also decided to update the Party of the Week more often, so you'll have even more chances for the spotlight!  Keep in mind that only those profiles with the most content get picked, so make sure your profile is filled out completely!

And speaking of pimped-out profiles, we've been receiving a lot of feedback from you guys wondering how to get your party on MTV.  We regularly feature our Party of the Week winner during My Super Sweet 16 episodes, and only those profiles that are completely tricked out get that distinction.  The best way to make sure this happens is to fill out your profile to the max! 

Additionally, the show producers often browse the website for outstanding parties, but it's only the really bangin' profiles that get their attention.  The bigger and badder your profile, the more visible you are!

About the Tradition

The Sweet Sixteen an established part of modern American culture.

Molly Ringwald stars in John Hughes movies about it. Everybody from Neil Sedaka to Hillary Duff sings about it. And millions of people from all walks of life gather around their TVs to watch the bratty antics of America's richest girls on MTV's My Super Sweet 16.

But why do we celebrate the sixteenth birthday in particular? It's mostly an American thing - girls in Spanish-speaking countries (and girls of Latino descent in America) celebrate a Quinceañera, which takes place on the fifteenth birthday instead of the sixteenth.

Americans love big things - big country, big cars, big bucks - so the idea of a big party fits in with the national character, but why particularly sixteen? Some people say that the sixteenth birthday is celebrated because it corresponds with some major legal milestones on a young girl's road to adulthood: the right to get a driver's license and also the age of consent (in most states). Others say it may be a version of the debutante ball, in which high society girls were officially presented to the community mostly in order to attract wealthy suitors, for girls who were not part of high society, or whose parents weren't interested in marrying them off. Maybe it was just consonance - sweet sixteen sounds good, or at least better than "sweet fifteen." But hey, in the end, nobody really needs a reason to party, right?

Greetings, Sweet 16ers!

The site has been up for just over a month now, and we're extremely pleased with how it's going so far. 

The community is growing every day and we get such a good feeling every time we look at all these parties and how happy and excited everyone is about them. 

We've recently made some upgrades, additions, and changes to the website to enhance the mysupersweet16.com experience and we hope you enjoy them. 

To all of you out there who have already submitted your parties, we want to say, thanks and great job!  That said, we also want this to be the site where the party never stops, so why not celebrate your 18th birthday, graduation, homecoming, or just anything!  We want all of your parties to live forever, so let us help you celebrate your life!

There's so much more to come, so we hope that you stick around and continue to be active in the community.  You won't be disappointed!
